Model Curricula for Journalism in the Arab World

Tools for teaching journalism in MENA

Authors:
Publisher: UNESCO Communication and Information Sector (Webworld), 2008

Following the publication by UNESCO of a Model Curricula for journalism education, this wiki platform is a tool to adapt the programme to teaching journalism in Arabic and French. Designed as a generic model to be adapted according to a country’s specific needs, the Model Curricula takes account of the social, economic, political and cultural contexts of developing countries and emerging democracies, highlighting the connection between democracy and journalism and arguing for a more cross-disciplinary approach within journalism training centres.

This Wiki gives access to the main courses proposed in the curriculum, giving the books and reference texts for each course. It provides an opportunity for those who want to participate, to suggest books (with online references if possible) in developing and adapting the teaching programmes. Moreover the Wiki keeps visitors up to date on current events and on the recent changes and suggestions for reference texts.

A link to the original Model Curricula is available on the right hand side, under further information.
