Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU)


The IPU is a world organisation of parliaments of sovereign states, aiming to act as "the focal point for world-wide parliamentary dialogue for peace and cooperation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy".

Information sources include:

(a) WWW site: with information on IPU, its research and publications, links to related WWW sites

(b) Parline: searchable database of information on national parliaments. For each country gives a description of the electoral system, results of most recent elections, information on the presidency of each chamber of Parliament. Available on WWW site.

(c) Parlit: bibliographical database covering books/articles on parliamentary law and legislative elections world-wide. Database from 1965 onwards (available in WWW version only from 1992 onwards). Based on the collection of the IPU library.
