Health and inequality
Most data on health status and access to health services are published as national averages. In recent years a number of papers have demonstrated large differences between regions, social groups, sex and so forth within countries. They argue that this information is essential to assess the performance of the health system. There has been a considerable amount of progress in the development of methods to measure these inequalities. However, there are major debates about how to identify the inequalities most relevant for policy-makers.
