Access to services and information

Achieving substantial reduction in communicable disease must be linked to the pursuit of equity. Those at high risk of communicable disease tend to be from economically poor populations, which also have less access to health information, for example on the importance of vaccinations and other preventative measures, as well having less access to health services in general.

Whether to have targeted interventions to reduce such inequity or universal coverage remains an ongoing debate. An important component of information access is that by health professionals in developing countries, including current information on evidence-based interventions.
