Access to services and information

People need to have non-judgemental information if they are to realise their sexual and reproductive rights. Providing sexual health information is politically sensitive but it is essential. Young people (particularly young women) bear a disproportionate share of the burden of sexual ill-health.

Ideally, provision of sexual health information should begin at school. It should be made available in ways that are appropriate in terms of gender, age and level of understanding, and be sensitive to local culture. The information also needs to be relevant to enable people to access the right services. In turn, staff providing those services need information, both for themselves and to be able to respond to their clients' needs.
