Targeting men
Men need to be targeted and involved in female condom promotion strategies - particularly as they still maintain the dominant role in sexual decision making in many regions of the world. In most cases female condom use requires the co-operation of a woman's partner and therefore any stigma attached to its use needs to be addressed. A study to establish knowledge, attitude, and practice relating to female condom use in Ghana indicated that men thought its use would result in a proliferation of promiscuity among women. In addition to addressing such attitudes among men, negotiation strategies for female condom use should also be explored.
