  • Increased cohesion on an operational level, and the delivery of a more comprehensive package of services. This may involve the inclusion of SRH (family planning, maternal and child health, antenatal care, and STI diagnosis and management) within voluntary counselling and testing services. In addition, SRH services may be tailored to meet the needs of people living with HIV and AIDS and incorporate HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment and care.
  • Ensuring appropriate referral mechanisms are in place to support clients in accessing services not provided by an individual health facility.
  • Joined-up information, education, communication and behaviour change interventions, which present consistent and cohesive SRH and HIV and AIDS messages.
  • Using innovative approaches to ensure access to adequate, affordable and acceptable HIV and AIDS and SRH commodities, in particular the male and female condom. The condom is currently the only method which offers both disease prevention and protection from unintended pregnancies, however microbicides may also be able to provide such dual protection in the future.
