Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

The MDGs include maternal health and HIV and AIDS targets and indicators, however their exclusion of SRH and rights as found in the ICPD, is considered to be an obstruction to achieving the overarching MDGs. It has therefore been challenged from many quarters. The 2004 New York Call to Commitment (http://www.unfpa.org/upload/lib_pub_file/321_filename_New York Call to Commitment.pdf) by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), reflects international commitment to increasing linkages between SRH and HIV and AIDS, and to consolidating the association between the MDGs and ICPD.
