Opposition to linking SRH with HIV/AIDS

Linking sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS: an annotated inventory

Compiling tools which may enhance both HIV/AIDS and SRH programmes

Authors: ; World Health Organization (WHO); United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)
Publisher: World Health Organization , 2005

This online annotated inventory published by the World Health Organization (WHO) reviews tools that link HIV/AIDS with sexual and reproductive health (SRH) programmes (sexual health, maternal health, family planning and STI management) and those that link SRH with HIV/AIDS programmes (prevention, treatment, care and support). The inventory is not intended to be exhaustive and will be updated as new tools become available. The authors aim to strengthen linkages between HIV/AIDS and SRH programmes by providing access to relevant programming tools and pointing out gap areas where tools need to be developed further.

The publications in the inventory have been selected based on a framework around four main areas: learning of HIV status and accessing services; promoting safer and healthier sex; optimizing the connection between HIV/AIDS and STI services, and; integrating HIV/AIDS with maternal and infant health. Publications which address cross-cutting issues concerning the creation of an enabling environment, including human rights; community involvement and participation; as well as mechanisms to address structural determinants (e.g. gender equality, elimination of gender-based violence, and access to services) also feature [adapted from author].
