NGO promoting sustainable patterns of world development through research, training, policy studies, consensus building and public information. Programmes include: Environmental Planning and Management; Human Settlements; Sustainable Agriculture; Forestry and Land Use; Drylands; Environmental Economics(including the Collaborative Research in the Economics of Environment and Development (CREED); Sustainable Consumption and Trade (SCATI), and a European Programme.
Information services include:
(a) WWW site: with information on research activities, contact points and publications list
(b) Resource Centre: Collection on participatory learning and action, Interaise materials, IIED archives. Open to public by appointment only. Participatory Learning and Action and Community Wildlife Management collections now searchable through an online catalogue (see separate entry)
(c) Interaise Directory of country environmental profiles: (see separate entry), in conjunction with WRI.
(d) PRA / PLA: creating a bibliographical database on participatory rapid appraisal (PRA) / with the Institute of Development Studies (IDS): available on IDS WWW server. Full text of PLA Notes (formerly PRA Notes / RRA Notes) available on ActionAid bulletin board
(e) Maintains a database of consultants available for environmental employment
