Urban poverty
This South African-based advocacy organisation fights for the rights of shack and slum dwellers. Together with its partners, Slum Dwellers International (SDI) forms a global network of urban poor federations.
The centrepiece of SDI's work is a commitment to engage formal institutions, especially the local state, in dialogue and negotiation. The objective is to broker deals in ways that secure tenure and provide decent housing for vulnerable and marginalised households and to do so in such a way that precedents are set, institutionalised, and scaled up.
