Research institute at Tufts University dedicated to promoting a better understanding of how societies can pursue their economic and community goals in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner. Carries out original research, policy work, publication projects, curriculum development, conferences, and develops and disseminates educational materials to help broaden the ways in which economics and related disciplines are taught. G-DAE is jointly administered by the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the Tufts Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Activities are organised within two major programme areas:

  • Theory and Education - exploring and developing alternatives to neoclassical economic theory
  • Research and Policy - carring out applied research on the effects of economic policies. Research priorities include energy and climate change, recycling and materials use, and trade and sustainable economic integration
