Meet the editor

Laura Bolton

I joined the Eldis team in March 2007 and I am responsible for the Finance, Poverty and Trade resource guides. As I have recently started editing these guides I would appreciate any comments, suggestions and feedback on content that is being added or missed out. My contact details are at the bottom of this page.

About the guide

Trade is growing in importance for development. The perceived need for development organisations to influence trade policy is evident in the growing number of documents produced, and the continuation of the trade resource guide can be justified on the grounds that researchers and policy-makers, in addition to broad development professionals and journalists need to keep abreast of debates, but do not have time to identify and digest the mass of information produced. A key role for the guide therefore is in ensuring that key resources are highlighted and the lower quality or less relevant materials are filtered out.

The Eldis trade resource guide aims to cover a wide range of topics around trade policy, making sure that as many views as possible are represented on any particular policy issue. This is very important, given that perspectives on and interpretations of trade policy often depend on personal or organisational politics. Therefore our aim is not to simply present the latest and most interesting documents on trade, since this could lead to over-exposure for the more prolific campaigning organisations. The dilemma around the need to represent various and often conflicting viewpoints on key issues will be addressed through the use of synthesis and commentary linking several documents and highlighting related news stories.
