Trade in health services

This report of a research project, commissioned by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Department for International Development (DFID) UK, is concerned with the impact of highly skilled emigration on developing countries and the policy options of developed countries. The report notes the high volume of emigration from some countries and the multiple direct and indirect effects that such a brain drain can stimulate.

There are potentially positive and negative effects that skilled migration can cause. The report notes the economic and social implications that are present across different occupations and regions. The report concludes by suggesting policy directions for policymakers in developed receiving countries that will promote the positive aspects of international migration for the benefit of developing countries.
