Adviser - National Vaccine Preventable Disease Unit and National Screening Unit
- Full time, 6 month contract (long term) to undertake both activities
- Based in Suva, Fiji. Travel within Fiji will be required

Preference is for one adviser to undertake both activities, 1) the establishment of both the National Vaccine Preventable Disease Unit and 2) the National Screening Unit; however two separate advisers to undertake the two activities would also be considered.
Therefore, applications from advisers to undertake one of these activities for a 3 month period will also be accepted.
The Australian Government has established the Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) to implement its education, health and scholarship aid programs in Fiji and its scholarship program in Tuvalu. The Facility will also support the delivery of Australia’s emergency response efforts following natural disasters, and governance sector support when requested by the Fiji Government.
Support to Fiji’s health sector is a key component of the Facility. The focus of the support is on strengthening health service delivery as well as health systems strengthening, in particular financial planning, policy and management.
Coffey, through the Facility, is seeking applications for a technical adviser/s to contribute to the health program’s goals.
The Adviser will work collaboratively with colleagues in the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to initially review the concept of establishing both a National Vaccine Preventable Disease (NVPD) Unit and National Screening Unit in Fiji, including undertaking research on similar units internationally to inform options. The adviser will then scope and support establishment of the units by:
- Scoping the role, objectives, operations, monitoring, governance and management structure of the proposed new National VPD Unit and National Screening Unit;
- Assessing the resources required to establish and sustainably support the Units to achieve their objectives and sustain their operations, including their governance structures and translating that into a proposal or business case for endorsement; and
- Supporting the initial operations of the National VPD Unit and National Screening Unit.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced university degree (Masters level) in medicine or a public health related field; combined with considerable experience in the design, development and management of health services, including experience in developing proposals and/or business cases with multiple stakeholders. Experience in immunisation programs, infectious disease, disease surveillance and epidemiology with a strong health research background is also desired. Experience working with multiple stakeholders and in mentoring and coaching professional colleagues from different social and cultural backgrounds will be required. Experience in Fiji or another developing country is highly desirable.
