Essentialy a literature survey, which summarises the extensive policy and research literature (published and unpublished) available on gender issues in South Africa. The latest government statistical data is also synthesised and reported where appropriate. In addition, interviews were conducted with key informants, i.e researchers, policy makers, practitioners and activists working towards gender equality in South Africa, to seek their views on current developments.
