Graphic design for AIDS

How can the graphic design industry better contribute to HIV/AIDS communication

This document addresses the specific issue of graphic design as it currently applies to HIV/AIDS communication. It is aimed primarily at designers. It grew out of the author's attendance at the Barcelona 2002 conference and a personal analysis of the materials available there.

The author begins by considering the red ribbon symbol and describes it, and other symbols as often being used lazily, as cliches and without meaning.

A few examples are given of designs that are considered to be effective and imaginative. Some images of examples of design shown at the 2002 conference are also presented in this report.
