People, power and the environment: 15 years of UNRISD research

A synthesis of research findings from UNRISD projects and bibliography

This document was prepared for the 2002 Earth Summit. It is divided into two main parts: the first, short section describes the main research themes that the organisation has worked on over the previous fifteen years.

The main part of the document is annotated bibliography, listing UNRISD books and papers and providing a summary of each. The bibliography is divided into the following sections:

  • people's participation in conservation and sustainable development
  • population, gender and the environment
  • social dynamics of deforestation
  • social and environmental dimensions of protected areas and tourism
  • business responsibility for sustainable development

Annexes detail projects, case studies and researchers.
