Introductory course on Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling
In January 2003, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) offered a three-day introductory course on Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modeling at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). The course was designed to provide participants with a:short, non-technical overview of the three main components underlying this line of economic analysis:
- GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling System), the software in which project CGE models will be implemented;
- social accounting matrices (SAMs), the data framework needed to implement these models, and
- a brief exposition to CGE models and their structure.
This compilation provides a brief background to the course and the presentation (instruction) documents, as well as tutorials and accompanying exercises:
- Introduction to General Equilibrium Modeling for Policy Analysis
- Course Report
- Policy Models: Design, Implementation, and Use

- SAM Exercises
- A National SNA SAM
- Multisectoral models
- CGE application based on small SAM of Kuwait
