Measuring development in 2003

The World Development Indicators series endeavours to present a statistical snapshot of the world as seen by development economists.

The current set of indicators now encompass more than 500 indicators covering 152 countries, selected from a database spanning 40 years with more than 800 indicators for 208 countries.

This edition provides information on people, the environment, the economy, states and markets. The bulk of the document is made up of primary data which provides a picture of poverty trends and social welfare, the use of environmental resources, the performance of the public sector, and the integration of the global economy.
