Significance of cluster based approach for mining sector with special reference to Rajasthan
This paper argues that Rajasthan's mining industry could do with a fresh strategy geared towards its sustainable development, particularly because of its significant contribution to the state's revenue and the employment it provides. The author suggests that the present state of the industry can be summed up as regulatory, mutual distrust amongst the unit holders, dearth of specialised service providers, lack of skilled work force, lack of technical & credit support institutions and very little emphasis on collective action for continuous R & D and limited attention towards the lack of processing facilities.
In response to this, the author recommends that an integrated cluster based approach involving active participation of representative bodies, greater synergy amongst the government agencies, as well as regulating procedures with greater objectivity. Similarly, a public-private interface is utilised for setting up of specialised services, research & development activities and vocational trainings as per the industry’s demand to make the industry dynamic and self-sustainable in the longer run
