NEPAD's approach to ICT for development
This paper makes a case for the importance of Information and Communication Tools (ICTs) for development. The report gives a few positive examples of how the introduction of ICT has helped local communities to improve their economic situation.
The last part of the paper provides an overview of NEPAD’s approach to the ICT agenda, arguiing that:
- there is a dire need for coordination and synergy of African ICT efforts
- Africa’s competitive strength and differentiation must be exploited
- there is a need to build and nurture an appropriate African ICT capacity
- ICT must be integrated into developmental plans
- Africa must have a voice in the global ICT arena
- an appropriate list of ICT indicators for purposes of monitoring and evaluation is required
