Review and appraisal of Norwegian support to the Asian Institute of Technology
Review and appraisal of Norwegian support to the Asian Institute of Technology
Education programmes - successes, failures and future prospects
This paper assesses two aspects of Norway's support to the Asian Institute of Technology. The first is a review of the "Human Resources Development in Asia Through Higher Education and Training Programme" AIT (2003 – 2005) and the second is an appraisal for the proposed new programme for 2006-2009.
In terms of the 2003-2005 review, the paper recommends the following:
- improve donor harmonisation on national institution building efforts in the region
- improve donor harmonisation on AIT institution building efforts
- integrate more gender and social science perspectives in courses and programmes
- improve competence and practice on interdisciplinary approaches in programmes
- consider developing instruments to reduce brain-drain to developed countries.
In terms of the 2006-2009 appraisal, the paper offers very much the same advice as to the current programme.
