Peer education: training module

This training manual gives a detailed description and a store of activities for NGOs looking to design, carry out or manage an HIV/AIDS workshop for peer educators. The manual is targeted towards Alliance partner NGOs in Andhra Pradesh, to design and implement strategies and work-plans for peer education, as part of comprehensive sexual health interventions. It is equally as useful for other similar organisations working on sexual health.

The manual gives step-by-step details of workshop and training activities. It also gives several tips that the facilitator ought to follow in order to effectively run the workshop. They include the following:

• avoid dominating behaviour
• seek out and respect diversity
• focus on cumulative learning by all participants
• use approaches that are flexible and adaptable to suit each new set of conditions and participants.
