A quarter of a century ago, Governments from around the world met to discuss how conventional development could be changed to tackle two severe global problems, poverty and environmental destruction. Many inter-governmental meetings have followed, and for the last decade business has increasingly engaged this agenda. Yet the collective efforts to make development sustainable during this time have been grossly inadequate. The conventional model of material-based growth is failing us and failing future generations.
