Working in partnership with The World Food Programme (WFP) - institutional strategy 2005-08
An institutional strategy between the DFID and WFP
This paper develops an institutional strategy between Department for International Development (DFID) and World Food Programme (WFP). It is the second of its kind and runs from 2005-2008, providing £5 million a year in capacity building support to the WFP.
The strategy aims to enhance WFP’s:
- preparedness for, and ability to respond to, humanitarian crises
- organisational learning and knowledge management
- role in develolping national and regional capacities to prevent and respond to food emergencies.
The IS also supports the reforms of the humanitarian system promoted by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), and those supported by DFID and other donors. These include:
- the development of benchmarks for emergency response
- efforts to achieve robust, prioritised common humanitarian action plans
- the further strengthening of humanitarian coordination.
