Gender and Development Training Manual
Gender and Development Training Manual
This document is a comprehensive five-day, nine-session curriculum for use by trainers of program managers and development workers in the private and public sectors. Field-tested in eleven countries, the curriculum is designed to enable development workers to understand gender and how to do a gender analysis, as well as formulate strategies for creating gender-responsive institutions, policies, programs and projects. The course examines gender influences in the participants' own lives, cultural reinforcement of gender roles and relationships and how these affect the development process. It covers gender at personal, interpersonal, and organisational and community levels, with almost half the total course time spent on the latter. A participatory methodology enables partipants to learn from their own and each others' experiences. Details are provided of objectives, timing, content, materials, handouts and preparation needed for each session.
