This short article tells the stories of 3 market women who are exposed to violence and have to put up with street violence in the Haitian capital.
In the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, criminal gangs are imposing their violent laws in the street, killing police officers, kidnapping people and setting fires. They call it 'Operation Baghdad'. It is an attempt to restore Jean-Bertrand Aristide in power, the overthrown president. The worst hit by this violence are the women working in the markets, who spend hours in the streets trying to make enough money to make ends meet. This short article tells the stories of 3 such women who have to put up with violence and even break deals with criminals in order to be allowed to work and survive.
