Digital Library on Legal Basis for Positive Action

This is a collection of legal dispositions and court cases in the EU context and in Spanish legislation.

What is 'positive action' and how can it improve women's position in society? Women and men do not have equal opportunities of participation in the public spheres. For women, for instance, it is generally more difficult to participate in decision-making processes in political, social, economic, and cultural spheres. The Positive Action Plan is a strategy designed to correct these imbalances. And it is one of the areas of work of Emakunde - the Basque Woman's Institute, an autonomous body of the Basque Government. From their website it is possible to access a Digital Library on the Legal Basis for Positive Action. Documents in the library are organised in sub-themes and can be accessed through keywords. The library aims to help the understanding of what positive action is and is not, and explores legal frameworks at international, European, national, provincial and municipal levels. The material in the library also covers definitions, court trends in Spain and other countries, and provides relevant statistical data.
