Violence against Women and Children: Training for Trainers
Violence against Women and Children: Training for Trainers
This paper documents the proceedings of a training for trainers workshop which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in February 2004. The aims of this training were to increase knowledge and understanding of violence against women and children amongst a diverse group of participants, and to provide training skills so that knowledge, understanding and appropriate responses could be disseminated both within the participants' own organisations and on a multi-agency basis. Knowledge and understanding of the issues were enhanced through presentations, small group work and plenary sessions with discussion. All participants delivered a five-minute presentation on a selected topic, wrote a case study, and designed a one-day training course. Four training groups were formed and each group delivered at least one training session to a target group. Each group focused on a chosen topic: law enforcement in the struggle against violence against women, women in journalism and the broadcast media, awareness raising programmes on violence against women, violence against women and legal rights. Recommendations made to support the training groups in delivering their training included ensuring that follow-up meetings are arranged with each of the groups, and that reasonable resources are provided for training participants.
