This on-line radio broadcast is part of the Safe Streets Regional Programme promoting cities free from violence against women and safe for all, in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). It is run by UNIFEM and implemented in countries in by the Habitat LAC network, with support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation. This broadcast reports on countries like Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil and Peru where the Safe Cities Regional Programme is being implemented. In this broadcast, members of organisations tell listeners about the necessity to include women’s rights in public safety policies, and how to incorporate the perspective of gender in city planning. There are many types of violence that occur in cities, both in the public and private spheres. In public spaces, sexual violence is the largest threat to women.
