Website: 30 Years at CEDAW (blog)

2009 marks the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Global Bill of Rights for Women. Although CEDAW has been adopted by over 90 percent of the Member States of the United Nations, the European Union (EU) has still not ratified the Convention, and EU Member States have not implemented it. This blog is developed as part of a campaign run by Women in Development Europe (WIDE) which celebrates 30 years anniversary of CEDAW and calls for its ratification by European countries. Entries in this blog examine the Convention and recommend how it should be used by EU governments to lobby for its ratification. The blog contains news and events connected to the 30th anniversary of the bill and provides commentary and opinion including statements on the positions of various campaign groups, such as the WIDE CEDAW Statement which demands that the EU must ratify and implement CEDAW. Links are provided to participating organisations within the blog posts and further information or documents, such as conference brochures, are accessible to download. One blog post offers a downloadable booklet with basic information about CEDAW, another offers a report which encourages readers to tell others about CEDAW and to ask local and national politicians where their commitments lie.
