ICT enabled independent living for elderly

We are living in the midst of an unprecedented transition: the rapid ageing of the inhabitants of the industrialised world, accompanied by a diminishing number of young people. Figures in the Green Paper on Demographic Change launchedby the Commission show that by 2030 there will be a shortage of about 20.8 million people of working age in the EU. In 2030roughly two active people (15-65) will have to take care of one inactive person (65+). And Europe will have 18 million childrenand young people less than today. This demographic change has, and even more will have, an enormous economic andsocial impact on various areas. Europe today is still ill prepared to deal with this demographic change and the implications itwill have on social, political, and economic structures.
