SendasAL is an online initiative to generate and share information on gender inequality in Latin America, as well as strengthen efforts to reduce poverty and promote social justice in policy and practice. It is headed by CIEDUR – an interdisciplinary centre for development studies in Uruguay, and BRIDGE – a gender research and information programme located within the Institute of Development Studies in the UK. The SendasAL website provides virtual spaces to facilitate the exchange of experiences, ideas, opinions and support. The objective of the first and current stage of this initiative is to offer information about the creation and use of statistics and gender sensitive indicators. Referring to them as “gender equality tools” to build recognition of disparities affecting women in relation to men, the indicators measure the divide between the levels of development each gender is able to achieve. The SendasAL website contains numerous links to resources on statistics related to gender equality. Information about specific indicators in Latin America is broken down into the following themes: physical autonomy, political autonomy, and economic autonomy. The website also has sections on case studies, good practices and gender analysis. A directory of national, regional and international civil society organisations, networks and observatories is also provided; the majority of them are involved in the production of gender sensitive research or statistics. This website is in Spanish.
