UNFPA Philippines

Every day, around eleven women in the Philippines die during pregnancy and childbirth, and for every maternal death at least 20 other women suffer serious complications, some of which are life-long. This United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) – Philippines web-based portal contains a resources section with a range of information related to its various sexual and reproductive health and family planning programmes. In the video gallery the film ‘Midwives make childbirth safer in Ifugao’ talks about the challenges and efforts being made to assure that women in Ifugao give birth safely. The publications gallery contains a review of good practice in the Philippines around facility-based delivery, skilled birth attendance and family planning, and the ‘quick facts’ section contains core indicator information for Philippines provinces. The ‘programme’ section of the portal contains information on UNFPA’s commitment to reproductive health in the Philippines and the MDG 5 section considers whether the country will be able to meet targets on reducing maternal mortality by 2015. There are also sections on the UNFPA 7th programme of assistance and the Philippines development assistance framework for 2012-18.
