Slum’s Identity in the hands of its slum dwellers
Slum’s Identity in the hands of its slum dwellers
One major feature of the policy climate in Chhattisgarh is the forthcoming implementation of Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), the central government scheme which aims to create 'slum-free cities'. It is the capstone project of the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme and other housing schemes. The policy has received wide acclaim, but the details of implementation, as always, have the potential to derail the project and undermine the potential for real transformation. This paper describes the process of slum mapping using GPS technology which PRIA facilitated in Chandrashekhar Nagar slum in Ward 25 of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. PRIA is undertaking similar initiatives in other cities such as Patna (Bihar).
