How to note: Assessing the strength of evidence

The “Assessing the Strength of Evidence” How to Note is published by DFID and aims to help their staff assess the strength of the evidence they are using to inform policy and programming choices. They have made the note more widely available, recognising that it may be useful to research, policy and practitioner audiences elsewhere.

The guide covers:

  • understanding different types of empirical research evidence
  • appreciating the principles of high quality evidence
  • considering how the context of research findings affects the way that staff might use them
  • understanding how to make sense of inconsistent or conflicting evidence
