Affordable Land and Housing in Asia
The central message of this report is that the provision of affordable housing remains a serious challenge in Asia. Nearly one third of the population live in slums and informal settlements. This report highlights that access to affordable land is a principal barrier to increasing supply of affordable housing as prices as pushed upwards, especially in cities where low- and middle-income households are often priced out. The lack of flexible housing finance is another constraint. Despite these barriers, there have been positive developments and the report examines how countries in Asia have improved affordable land and housing supply.
Part of a series which explores the state of affordable land and housing in four regions facing major affordability difficulties: Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, and Europe and North America.
