Local first in peacebuilding
There is growing recognition of the ubiquity and importance of locally led peacebuilding initiatives in conflict and post-conflict countries. Locally led peacebuilding offers advantages over internationally led initiatives for fostering self-help, relevance, and sustainability. A “Local First” approach looks primarily for the capacity within the country or society and only brings in external assistance where no local capacity can be found. This article seeks to detail the 'Local First' approach.
