Models of success. Are health sector reforms delivering the goods in Venezuela?
After economic crisis hit Venezuela in the l980s public health deteriorated sharply. At the same time, economic reform programmes required a change in the roles and capacity of government administration. There are different models of production and provision of goods and services associated with economic reform programmes, and each assumes a specific combination of public and private sector participation. These models were assessed in relation to the Venezuelan health sector as part of a research programme coordinated by the School of Public Policy at the University of Birmingham. The study report identifies the major issues for the roles and capacities of government and the private sector.
