Head of Global Safeguarding (Interim)

Oxford, UK
Full time Staff

Being Oxfam’s Interim Head of Global Safeguarding is about protecting those we work with. You understand that INGO workers hold a privileged position of trust, and with that comes responsibility to respect the dignity of those we support. Unfortunately, you know that there are also occasions when this privileged position can be abused for sexual gain. As sexual exploitation and abuse can never be justified, Oxfam GB’s unique, dedicated Safeguarding Team, pioneers work to address this issue.

What will I be doing?

As Head of Global Safeguarding you will have responsibility for managing a team who investigate allegations of sexual harassment, abuse and exploitation (including the abuse and neglect of children and adults at risk) made against Oxfam staff and other representatives.

You will also work closely with Oxfam staff, partner organisations and beneficiaries to raise awareness about safeguarding. This post fits within a wider risk management function and has lots of support available. There are also excellent opportunities for global travel, as well as investment in personal development.

What background do I need?

This is an emerging area of work and we are offering an unparalleled opportunity for specialist development. The main thing is that you understand and care deeply about the issues. You have a strong motivation to do this work, and want to see your efforts rewarded with improvements across the sector. As for experience, are you in:

  • Safeguarding – and looking to work in new environments, including a network of shops and international programmes?
  • HR/Employee Relations – and looking to apply your transferrable investigation/training skills?
  • Programme Accountability – and keen to specialise more on PSEA and Safeguarding?

Yes? Then, this could be the role for you.
