Australia Awards in Papua New Guinea is designed to promote knowledge, leadership and enduring ties between Australia and PNG. It aims to build knowledge and skills to address PNG’s economic and development challenges through international scholarships to Australia and scholarships in PNG. It also seeks to foster people-to-people links between Australia and PNG.
The program offers the next generation of leaders in Papua New Guinea opportunities to acquire professional and technical knowledge and skills relevant to the priorities of the Government of PNG. It ensures that study opportunities are provided for women, people with disabilities and people from remote locations. There is a focus on supporting alumni to use their skills, knowledge and networks to drive change and innovation.
AAPNG includes three types of study options:
- Australia Award scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study primarily post graduate courses in Australia;
- In-PNG scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study in PNG to meet critical workforce gaps and to contribute to strengthening local education institutions; and
- Australia Awards Short Course Awards for Papua New Guineans to undertake short term study in Australia (referred to as Fellowships in PNG);
To deliver Australia Awards outcomes, the Facility has five streams: Australia Awards Scholarships; PNG and Pacific Awards; Short Course Awards; Alumni Engagement; and Secondary Education Partnerships. Australia Awards in PNG is managed by Coffey, a Tetra Tech company, on behalf of the Australian Government.
The PR, Marketing and Partnerships Manager leads and manages the communications and public relations and partnership functions for Australia Awards in PNG (AAPNG) and has a significant role in achieving the program’s public diplomacy objectives.
The position is responsible for developing and implementing an effective communications and public diplomacy strategy and plan in accordance with the program’s goal, objectives and strategies. This includes internal and external communications, public promotions and events, partnership development and management particularly with the private sector, stakeholder and media liaison, and ensuring alignment with DFAT’s branding requirements.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Manager will foster continuous improvement and innovation, ensure quality delivery, and maximise program outcomes for AAPNG.
The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, public relations or related field. We are seeking a specialist with at least ten years of communications and/or public relations experience in an international context, covering communication outputs, public relations, promotions, events and media.
To be successful in this role, you will have proven ability to manage a high-performance team in a complex project management environment. You will have demonstrated and successful experience in working cross-culturally with colleagues, government agencies, service providers and other stakeholders in addition to having demonstrated experience with applying branding policy and procedures. You will have demonstrated proven experience supporting programs with clear gender equality, disability, social inclusion policy, practice and outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have high level English language writing skills, including the ability to write for a variety of different audiences with excellent attention to detail. Client service and the ability to work to multiple deadlines, enthusiasm to lead change and foster a ‘can-do’ team culture is also required.
