United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI)

Most of the UN agencies offer their own information servers (see separate entries for some of these). Many UN databases and statistical datasets are not available online, only by contacting the agency responsible: information on these is available in the ACCIS Directory of United Nations Information Sources (DUNDIS) (see separate entry).

Good general sites include:

(a) UN Department of Public Information: WWW service from its Secretariat offices in New York. Server includes: materials from UN Conferences; full text of documents from the General Assembly, Security Council (including resolutions) and the Economic and Social Council (these via a link to the UNDP gopher/WWW; news; links to other UN severs. WWW: http://www.un.org

(b) WWW site listing the various UN servers is the one run by the United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP). Connect: http://www.undcp.org/unlinks.html

(c) UN Official Web Site Locator: links to UN bodies, classified in various sequences: Connect: http://www.unsystem.org

(d) Yale UN Scholars workstation (see separate entry): WWW: http://www.library.yale.edu/un/unhome.htm

(e) United Nations International Organizations Network Search (UNIONS): allows a search of a number of UN agencies from a single search form. WWW: http://www3.itu.int/unions/search.cgi
