IEIE is one of the research institutions of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences located in the academic district of Novosibirsk. IEIE was founded at the end of 1950s with the aim of promoting exploration of Siberian natural resources.

The Institute's area of specialization focused on the elaboration and application of mathematical methods into the economic analysis and forecasting.

Other research topics include:

• structural changes and economic transformation in Russia
• industrial development

• performance of enterprises in the market environment

• regional policies of the government and development of Siberian economy

• theoretical and applied issues of information technologies in the economic sphere

IEIE publishes two special journals:

• Economy and Industrial production, (EKO)

• Region: Economy and sociology
