Research Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics, Slovakia

The Research Institute of Agricultural Economics is a scientific research institution, oriented with the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture. Agricultural economic research has more than 80 years of tradition in Czechoslovakia, starting with a formal institution based in Prague (with a Bratislava regional office) in 1919. This original institution forms the basis of the present institution, which is focussed primarily with problems of agricultural economics, economics of agriculture and food production, management of entrepreneurs and questions of national economic policy with regard to the development of agro-food production and research.

The institute’s areas of focus include:

  • creation of conceptions and programs of agricultural policy and development of the countrysid
  • carrying out tasks in the agricultural field arising from Slovakia’s accession to the EU
  • creation and administration of the Central Database of the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture
  • creation and administration of the network of testing firms in agricultural accounting
  • collecting, processing and analysing market and price data in agricultural and food sectors
  • co-operation with foreign organisations and carrying out tasks arising from intergovernmental agreements
  • consultancy and publishing
