The Initiative has been developed by tour operators internationally with the support of UNEP, UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization (WTO/OMT).

Members of the Initiative have formed Working Groups in four key areas of action:

• sustainability reporting
• cooperation with destinations
• supply chain management
• communication
