Jamaica Sustainable Development Network, Jamaica (JSDNP)

The Sustainable Development Network Programme (SDNP) is a global catalytic initiative launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in response to Agenda 21, which articulated the need for improved information dissemination to support sustainable development. The programme is geared towards facilitating communication between users and suppliers of sustainable development information in developing countries. JSDNP was established in 1997 under the SDNP to provide a meeting place that services the sustainable development information needs of all sectors of society in Jamaica.

Objectives of the organisation include the following:

  • introduce and connect public, private and non-government sector agencies to local and international sources of information on sustainable development utilising the Internet and other communication tools
  • develop appropriate information services to support the implementation of local and national development plans
  • provide information on Jamaica’s environment and social and economic development via the Internet to the international community
Activities of the organisation include:
  • maintaining a central web site
  • collect, collate and post information relevant to sustainable development
  • establish community telecentres and information networks
  • conduct training in information management and computer mediated communication
  • assist partners in establishing web sites, and sourcing and posting information
  • host web sites for clients and partners
The website is the centrally maintained website for the organisation and contains a wide range of information about the project, participants and partners.
