Established in 1989, the Institute has since been working in the areas of housing policy and urban development as well as local government finance research in Hungary. MRI undertakes research and consultant assignments, organises conferences and designs and provides training in following areas:

• Research and consulting: financing local government, urban development and housing policy with regard to Hungarian and Central and Eastern European practices
• Education and training: Hungarian and international professional trainings and workshops, engagement in higher education in the topics of local governmental financing, housing policies and urban development
