Centre for Conflict Resolution, University of Cape Town (UCT) (CCR)

CCR seeks to contribute towards a just peace in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa by promoting constructive, creative and co-operative approaches to the resolution of conflict and the reduction of violence.

Its activities include mediation, facilitation, training, education and research, with an emphasis on capacity building. It also teaches a post-graduate course in conflict resolution and maintains a "Peace Library" with resources on conflict and peacebuilding. Its projects and programmes include:

  • the Conflict Intervention and Peacebuilding Support Project, focussing on Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho
  • the Policy Development and Research Project, focussing on defence and security issues in southern Africa
  • the Mediation and Training Services Programme, which operates in the Western Cape area of South Africa
  • the South African Prisons Transformation Programme
  • the Youth Programme, which promotes peace education in South African schools.

The centre has a quarterly publication, Track Two, which aims to promote innovative and constructive approaches to community and political conflict.
