    Migration and home gardens in the Brahmaputra Valley, Assam, India

    Based on household surveys conducted in 37 villages in northeast India, this paper compares home garden productivity and economic return among residents and immigrants of different ethnic groups. It explores the hypothesis that residents had an advantage over immigrants in maximising gains from home gardens resources.

    Mobilising smallholder labour in oil palm production: results of the mobile card trial, Hoskins, West New Britain, Papua New Guinea

    Under-harvesting in the smallholder oil palm sector leads to substantial production losses amongst outgrowers. At Hoskins in Papua New Guinea losses were estimated at around 25% of production with the main causes related to a shortage of labour supply.This paper reviews a payment trial at Hoskins that was designed to increase the supply of labour and so raise productivity.
